The coin marks the 25th anniversary of public service broadcasting in Andorra. The design shows a microphone and an antenna, surrounded by several circular lines mimicking radio waves.
Radio Andorra was a commercial radio station that issued by concession of the authorities of the Principality of Andorra between 1939 and 1981. Thanks to the neutrality of the Principality during World War II, Radio Andorra was the only French-language European private broadcaster to broadcast throughout the conflict without being under the direct control of either France or Germany. It also became the only radio station that retained such independence after the end of the war, which earned the rest of its existence the overt hostility of the Gallic authorities, who tried without fortune to pressure the Andorran government.
The motif shows a microphone and an antenna surrounded by several circular lines with the inscription «25è ANNIVERSARI DE RÀDIO I TELEVISIÓ D'ANDORRA», the year of issue «2016» and the name of the issuing State «Andorra». |
