The Official Blister 2009 contains the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 euros. The 8 coin set is accompanied by a mint medal from the series “Finnish lighthouses” and features the lighthouse at Market (designed by artist Hannu Veijalainen), the westernmost building in Finland.
In the middle of the Aland Sea, divided by the border between Finland and Sweden, lies the small and low isle of Market. The rocky isle was a threat to shipping, and a lighthouse was built there of chunky stones in 1885. Lighthouse keepers lived on the barren isle till 1976, after which the lighthouse was automated. The Finnish Lighthouse Association has commenced the restoration of the valuable lighthouse building. |
