Details The Official Blister 2005 "Endangered Animals" contains the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 euros (unc), as well as a cupronickel mint medal struck to support the theme of the packaging. The mint medal is designed by Hannu Veijalainen and features an arctic fox and a white-backed woodpecker.

The number of endangered species is rising in Finland. The Ministry of the Environment's suggestion for the new nature conservation act includes a list of 1,410 endangered species. The current number is 1,300. Among the species now considered endangered are Temminck's stint (Calidris temminckii) from the sandpiper family, and the controversial barred warbler (Sylvia nisoria) that came to public attention over the Vuosaari Harbour construction project. Efforts are being made to increase the populations of all endangered species, and to raise public awareness of this impending disaster in the natural world.
