It is situated on the outskirts of Maulbronn, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany and is separated from the town by fortifications. Since 1993 the monastery is part of the Unesco World Heritage. Baden-Wurttemberg is the third largest of Germany's sixteen states in terms of both area and population, with an area of 35,742 square kilometres (13,800 sq mi) and 10.7 million inhabitants.
