Obverse of Germany 2 euros 2015 - 25 years of German Unity
Details The Federal Government decided on 4 June 2014 to issue a 2- euro commemorative coin "25 years of German unity" in January 2015. The coin commemorates the reunification of Germany, marking the 25th anniversary.

The formal unification of Germany into a politically and administratively integrated nation state officially occurred on 18 January 1871 at the Versailles Palace's Hall of Mirrors in France. Princes of the German states gathered there to proclaim Wilhelm of Prussia as Emperor Wilhelm of the German Empire after the French capitulation in the Franco-Prussian War.

The center of the coin depicts a group of people standing in the foreground, the embodiment of a new beginning and the progress towards a better future, and in the background the Brandenburg Gate, symbol of German unity.
