Monaco Euro Coins

On the basis of an agreement with the EU, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City can distribute Euro Coins, too. The Monegasque Euro coins have the smallest mintage quantity of all the Euro Zone members. The passing of H.S.H., the Sovereign Prince Rainier III in April 2005, required a new series of coins be issued, thus Monaco has issued two different series of euro coins. The new series, issued in December 2006, represents the accession of H.S.H., the Sovereign Prince Albert II to the Monegasque throne.

The design of the Monaco euro coins (1st series)

  • €2 coin, HSH Prince Rainier III designed by Pierre Rodier
  • €1 coin, a double portrait of HSH Prince Rainier III and HSH Hereditary Prince Albert designed by Henri Thiebaud
  • 10, 20 and 50-cent coins, the Prince's seal designed by Robert B. Baron
  • 1, 2 and 5-cent coins, the coat of arms of the Sovereign Princes of Monaco designed by Robert Cochet

  • on the €2 and €1 coins, a portrait of HSH Prince Albert II
  • on the 10, 20 and 50-cent coins, HSH Prince Albert's monogram
  • on the 1, 2 and 5-cent coins, the coat of arms of the Sovereign Princes of Monaco
