- Explanation: Degree or grade of purity of precious metal, either in monetary or bullion form. Most forms of precious metal require an additional metal to provide a durable alloy. Often stated in terms of purity per 1,000 parts: i.e. .925 fine silver coin has 92.5% silver and 7.5 % other metal
