Explanation: Official name: Georgia. (Part of the former Soviet Union) Monetary unit: 1 ruble = 100 kopecks. The Georgian coupon was introduced April 5, 1993, at par with the Russian ruble and circulated parallel with it, on August 20, 1993 the Georgian coupon became sole legal tender, floating against all currencies. The coupon is interim currency until its eventual replacement by a new national currency, the lari, when the economic situation has stabilized. The Georgian lari, introduced September 25, 1995, replaces the Georgian coupon at a rate of 1,000,000 coupons to 1 lari; on October 2, 1995 the Georgian lari became sole legal tender, floating against all currencies.
